The legendary EPMD performed at Yoshi's SF last night. The O.G hip hop group from the 80's just screamed my older brothers era. Most people there were about his age. It made me think back to his dj years, and the years I started really becoming obsessed with music. I used to want to play his records on his turn tables back in the day but always was reminded not to touch his things. I would always try to sit and hang out with the boys while they would spin records...digging through crates and crates of records. I blame it all on my brother Alfred and Divine Beat Productions for the obsessed music junkie I've become! HA!
EPMD has been in the music business for about 21 years now. Faithful to hip hop and huge supporters of underground hip hop. Last night show was sold out! The floor was packed and from where I was sitting, the audience was ready for some live hip hop. Parrish and Eric Sermon entertained us with all the classics. "Strictly Business", "Crossover", "You got's to chill", "Gold digger", "Pls listen to my demo", "so what cha sayin", "headbanger" just to name a few. Each song they did was well received and the crowed went crazy! The set they did was pretty short...which kinda sucked. But I enjoyed every single song they performed, and that was worth it to me. Legends of hip hop...great entertainers, professionals on stage, true to their music...over all great show.
They did mention something that took me back to my Mos Def experience. They were giving props to their fans, cause if it wasn't for their fans they wouldn't be where they are today. So they said, If you ask any artist for their autograph or a photo and they don't give you one? Slap the shit out of them!- The fans are the one's that put food on their table, the fans are the one's who bought that phat ass car your driving...etc. I thought to myself...they are damn right, and wished I would have been able to say that to Mos when he dissed me!... Oh, well. maybe one day I will get my chance. hee hee!
Happy Birthday Mic-Dawg!-hope you enjoyed the show!
